From the response, we know that Xtra Detergent is an animal-free product, whereas the fabric softener sheets AND liquid does contain animal derived ingredients in the
EEEEWWWW Why didn't you ask which animal and WHY!!! UGH!!!! Let the media hear this one yah!

Wait so, animal by products are haram in any type of product we use?
ReplyDeleteWhat if there was beef meat in the fabric softners o-o?
I'm just trying to understand :]
Well, there is a difference of opinion on that (as basically every matter in Islam). The most common view is that any food or hygiene product contains any animal derivative in it, it is not lawful to use... this goes for food, soap, toothpaste, lip gloss/chap stick, lotion.. clothes go on your skin as well so it only makes sense that whatever is 'cleaning' it should matter too.
ReplyDeleteSalam. i've just found this blog. i want to ask about DAIA detergents and softeners. are they halal to be used? tq
ReplyDeleteSalaam,
ReplyDeleteSince I learned that most fabric softeners (potentially if not certainly) do use animal-derived fats, both liquid and sheet-type softeners, I switched to 'Seventh Generation' and a couple other organic brands. These brands clearly state on the label that their ingredients are plant-derived. I switched detergent brands, too, since detergents can use animal-derived ingredients.
It's more expensive, true - but if you have a Whole Foods in your area, they put the Seventh Generation detergents on sale (sometimes even half off) every few months, so I'd buy several then.
As far as fabric softener, I've found I can use about half of the suggested amount and still have acceptably soft and static-free clothes. That helps with the price, too.
What about alcohol?
ReplyDeleteim confused!!! every single thing according to me is haram now, because there is nothing which has no alcohol or fats free even if it is it's so rare to find or think of what it could be, i mean what should we do? i'm really really confused about this halal and haram...
